MP Visits School Parliament for UK Parliament Week
We were delighted to welcome Dan Jarvis MBE, MP for Barnsley North, to our school as part of our celebrations for UK Parliament Week.
During his visit, Dan spent time with members of our School Parliament from Years 5 and 6.
Our pupils had prepared thoughtful questions and were excited to learn more about what it’s like to be an MP, how Parliament works, and why taking part in democracy is so important.
The children confidently shared their own future career ambitions and took part in a lively and respectful debate about whether smoking should be banned. We were incredibly proud of the maturity, curiosity and enthusiasm they showed throughout the discussion.
Dan shared some very kind words about our school, saying:
“I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Athersley North Primary School over the years, but I always leave impressed.
My recent visit during UK Parliament Week was no exception.
Great teachers and brilliant kids — it’s always inspiring!”
We would like to thank Dan for taking the time to visit us and for inspiring our young people to think about their role in shaping the future
